Stiles & Drewe’s THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF

A new Studio Cast Recording of a ‘Rock’n’Troll musical for Kids (& their Nannies).

The Three Billy Goats gruff

is the final show in a trilogy of family-friendly musicals from the pens of Olivier Award-winning musical theatre creatives George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (‘Wind In The Willows’, ‘Soho Cinders’, ‘Betty Blue Eyes’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Honk!’), in what Stiles and Drewe describe as a “trilogy of trios”. The companion pieces previously released by SimG Records (and available for licensing through MTI) are

The Three Little Pigs

and

Goldilocks And The Three Bears.

With a score filled with trade-mark Stiles and Drewe tuneful melodies and crisp, witty lyrics,

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

was commissioned by the Singapore Repertory Theatre’s Little Company and the original production was directed by Anthony Drewe. The show reminds children to take notice of warnings of danger, as well as to appreciate what they already have - the grass may not always be greener on the other side of the fence.

The album consists of 12 tracks, with orchestrations by Ruth Ling, and performed by a stellar West End cast: with Olivier nominee

Tyrone Huntley

(Jesus Christ Superstar, Dreamgirls),

Millie O’Connell

(Cher, Six),

and two-time Olivier nominee

Michael Xavier

(Sunset Boulevard, Prince Of Broadway)

as the Billy Goats,

Lizzie Bea

(Hairspray, Sister Act)

as Little-Bo Frilly, and three-time Olivier award-winner

David Bedella

(& Juliet, In The Heights, Jerry Springer)

as the Troll.

REVIEWS

"The narrative and characterisation are admirably clear, and there’s tension without it being too scary … Stiles’ score is irresistible catchy, with jaunty tunes … Bedella has enormous fun with his evil laughs and silky, deep-voiced threats … a swaggering Xavier, chipper O’Connell and warm Huntley blend beautifully as the goats, while sweet-voiced Bea brings an appealing sincerity … the prevailing theme of finding contentment among your family and friends, rather than greedily fixating on some distant prize, is an indisputable lovely one."

Marianka Swain, Musicals Magazine

✭✭✭✭✭"filled with a score of witty lyrics and memorable melodies … there’s a little something for the adults as well as the kids … uplifting, toe-tapping, good old-fashioned storytelling and guaranteed to keep the younger kids entertained"

Rachel Louise Martin, West End Best Friend

9/10 "While designed as a musical for children, with it's memorable songs and upbeat performances, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ is sure to be a hit with all members of the family… a fun musical"

Nick Smithson, Review Graveyard

✭✭✭✭✭"Charming … good-humoured … the musical score and lyrics are a delight throughout … bouncy numbers for the goats and some more macabre tunes for the Troll … I am sure any child – and their nannies or even their parents – would enjoy this cheerful little show."

Michael Darvell, Musical Theatre Review
